An update from Lawrence, KS…

By admin | Jul 6, 2010

Thank you for your continued interest and prayer for those in Lawrence impacted by Good News, Eastern Kansas!

Gina came to the neighborhood Bible study Monday night for the first time. Pray for her spiritual growth and employment. Those of you who helped with the A.M. kid’s club will remember her daily assistance.

Keith mailed back one of 3 reply cards. He is a studious believer who is concerned for his neighborhood in E. Lawrence. He came to the Chapel dinner on Wednesday night. Please pray for more one-on-one with him and for guidance as he is currently studying Eastern Orthodoxy.

After several attempts, we were able to visit briefly with Misty, a young mother. We asked if she had any prayer requests. With tears she said she wanted her children back. Pray for more opportunity to show her the love of Christ.

We bumped into Donny downtown who introduced himself by saying that he had heard the “Corrie Ten Boom” presentation by Vickie Gaynier while in jail.
Pray that we can find him again.

Please pray that we in Lawrence don’t drop the ball, but keep our focus on things that matter.

For the sake of the Name,
Mark Schonberg

Dear intercessors,

Greetings from almost smack-dab in the middle of the U.S.A. The Lord is at work in Eastern Kansas, and we continue to see His hand and heart revealed. A few cloud bursts threatened our work but then evaporated and the day was ideal for the work. But please pray. Thunderstorms are forecasted (by failing weather reporters) for the rest of the week. We hope in God.

Some of the team are starting to head for home, and some are beginning to flag a little because it is not only physically trying, but emotionally and spiritually as well. We appreciate your ministry, like Aaron and Hur, to “lift up the hands which hang down, and [strengthen] the feeble knees” (Heb 12:12; see Job 4:4 and Isa 35:3).

Where have they travelled from to help the saints in Kansas? Off the top of my head, I know we have believers who have come here from CO, UT, NM, MI, OH, NY, NC, KY, OK, LA, FL, IL, WI, VT, NH, ME, SD, TX, MN, IA, GA, AR, and MD as well as from KS (and David Nicholson is now officially from MS!). Plus a good contingent from ON, some from AB and Tim Hood who attempted to come from BC. Yet throughout the weeks of planning, prep and outreach, we have not heard one discouraging word! It is the Lord, and His gracious indwelling Spirit, the bond of peace. Is it any wonder that He is commanding the blessing?

Olathe:

As of last night, the team members seeking to establish a beachhead in this Kansas City suburb had 75 follow-up contacts, 24 of them “A” contacts (those who specifically asked for follow-up or a Bible study). That will be a monumental task in the coming days so please KROP (as Ed Harlow used to say—”keep right on praying”). There is especially a need for people to follow-up with Hispanic contacts, and I understand the assembly has just one brother fluent in Spanish. Saturday morning some are meeting at 9:30 am to begin serious follow-up. Here are some specifics on individuals:

· Laura wants follow-up, in Spanish

· Chelsea has a Lutheran background, is looking for a church, and has requested follow-up

· Lalo was interested; someone has been talking to him about the Bible, and he is also interested in more discussion

· Remember the Sunday night Bible study which will be held at the Hampton Inn (where the out-of-town team members stayed)

· Gail asked for prayer for her illness, and a follow-up visit is planned for today

· Scott heard the gospel last night

· Rob has been hurt in his life, and has been put off by the hypocrisy of some Christians he knows, but took a packet of literature

· Dennis had received packet in Baldwin, commenting, “You’re everywhere!” He said he was saved but didn’t know if he was going to heaven; he heard the gospel yesterday

Lawrence:

Sister Vickie Gaynier was in both the women’s and men’s sections of the Douglas County jail on Friday (7-9 pm) and had a wonderful opportunity with 8 women and 21 men. She found the women harder to talk to, but found many of the men open and listening carefully. Her dramatization of Corrie Ten Boom was ideal since Corrie know about being imprisoned. Pray that the gospel seed will set these prisoners free.

Brother Jason M. overheard a conversation in a restaurant with servers saying that a friend had just had a baby and wanted to do everything possible to raise the boy as a gay. One girl asked, “What about the Bible?” and was scorned and shut down. How we need to have compassion on these in the dark. It adds special urgency to the work among children. Also in Lawrence:

· A good conversation with Rosanna, who heard the gospel; her brother and kids are involved in JW; she wants follow-up and took a CD

· AJ was very open, and talked about his sin; he wasn’t ready to trust the Lord; pray for follow-up

· Sean wants follow-up on Monday night; pray that he comes to the Bible study held there each Monday night

Ottawa:

Brother Scott DeGroff has been helped by the Lord the last few nights in communicating both the light and love of the gospel. Many visitors have attended and there has been good interest. We have been very heartened by the response of area Christians who have attended and had lengthy conversations with team members. God is at work in Ottawa but it seems there is much more to be done. Tonight is the last of the series. Pray for help and direction as to the ongoing work there. Also in the town:

· Cameron in the army reserves heard the gospel, and expressed a need for follow-up

· Braden and Brittney are cousins; they heard gospel, a had a good conversation about spiritual things with team members

· Wayne came to the gospel meetings; he is confused about sin (actually thinks he hasn’t sinned); may the Spirit do His work in that heart

· Jennifer came to meeting last night; her husband, Scott, is unsaved

· Clarence had some Bible knowledge, but is confused about some issues; he heard the gospel

· Scotty listened carefully to the gospel; he seemed interested and open, and needs follow-up

· Andy came to the meeting after hearing about it 3 times; says he is interested in Bible study

· Wally wasn’t ready to come to meeting last night; says he agrees with the gospel but has not made it personal

· Jame is Wally’s grandson; his mother was murdered some time ago and he is still struggling; he heard gospel, and was invited to the meetings

· We were able to share the story of the Samaritan woman with a woman, Adrienne, near the auditorium; she was invited to the meeting tonight

· Mr. Koch has come to the meetings every night; he is mentally handicapped, but said he trusted Christ (Isa 35:8).

· Mike was open and receptive, heard the gospel, but believes in works; he is going to try to come to the meeting Saturday night

· Bob was confused about some things, was invited out to the gospel meetings

· Barbara was uninterested but took a packet; pray for the thousands of lit-packs distributed across the area that the seed will yet sprout into eternal life

· Will, a Jew, although ignorant even of his own religion, was willing to talk and was invited to the meetings

· The employees at Casey’s General Store were invited; pray they might come to the meeting tonight

· An unnamed man with a Catholic background said he was interested in follow-up

· Jordan and Jason came back to the meeting Friday night; a married couple, pray for their salvation

· Roger professes to be a believer, says he is interested in Bible study

· Please pray for Scott as he prepares for the the meeting tonight

Baldwin:

There was a barbeque cookout at supper Thursday and about 10 people from community came. They seemed to enjoy it. They all seemed to be related or connected somehow—a sheaf to be gathered for the Master. One of the Baldwin Christians asked for prayer that the believers would love and accept the people who come in as a result of the outreach. Also:

· Brandon asked for follow-up; wants to hear more about gospel

· Ian, a pilot, was receptive to hearing gospel

· Eric had right answers, so it’s difficult to know where he stands; pray for salvation or a clear confession of Christ

· Baldwin kid’s club – pray for continued attendance and salvation of kids

· Mildred professed to be a believer at one point but was confused about the role of works; she said earlier she didn’t know if she had eternal life, but after a lengthy conversation she seemed to understand yesterday and said she wanted to accept Christ; she spontaneously began to pray and asked the Lord to save her

Today most of the team will be heading for home. Please pray for safety en route, for the C3 team who will be starting their 3-month gospel tour across Ontario, for preparations for a two-week gospel series in Brookings later this summer, but especially for the local believers here who have so much work now in follow-up. May it be the case that still much is harvested, that some day “the sowers and reapers will rejoice together.”

You have had a key part in this outreach through your prayers. Our gratitude is to the Lord for you.

For the team as we continue in the field

Good day from the Good News! Eastern Kansas,

Thursday, June 10 has been a weather miracle. The weatherman’s forecast has been changed, no doubt through your prayers. How thankful we are to know the answer to the ancient questions: “Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, If you know?” (Prov 30:4). Suddenly the thunderstorms predicted for every day this week have been shifted to Saturday at the earliest. Would you pray the Lord would bump the clouds away for just one more day?

But on the spiritual front our prayers are just the opposite, taken from Psalm 72: “He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, like showers that water the earth. He will deliver the needy when he cries, the poor also, and him who has no helper. He will spare the poor and needy, and will save the souls of the needy. He will redeem their life from oppression and violence; and precious shall be their blood in His sight” (vv. 6, 12-14). O that the Lord would come down in blessing like that! “Mercy drops ’round us are falling, but for the showers we plead.”

Lawrence:
Yesterday Vickie was able to present the gospel through her depiction of Corrie Ten Boom to a full-to-capacity women’s luncheon in Lawrence. Today she was in the Baldwin City Public Library. The public meeting room was full and everyone went away with a packet of gospel literature. And we praise the Lord for answering your prayers to open the prison doors! Contrary to the usual two-week wait, the prison has invited Vickie to share with both the women and men tomorrow night from 7–9 pm.

· Please continue to pray for the Lawrence kid’s club–that children will keep coming each morning
· One man who called the police and said, “This door-to-door has to stop!” then softened and actually took the lit-pack, saying his mother might like it!
· Another heard the gospel at the door yesterday; follow-up is today, so please pray for his salvation
· R. invited the door-to-door workers inside; he is involved in Native American spiritualism, but listened with interest to the gospel; he is open to follow-up
· L., from a Catholic background, heard the gospel, and promised to think more about these things; pray that she follows through

Olathe/Kansas City:
The open air team, with the Ezekiel Project providing on-the-job training, had a good time yesterday afternoon in the city center. A number of good opportunities ensued. M. engaged in conversation; she is confused, involved in some sin, and convicted. She was raised in Christian home and no doubt her parents’ prayers were catching up with her. Also to pray for here:

· A. was visited again by Larry and Sam; at the conclusion of a 3-hour conversation, he asked the Lord to be his Savior
· A. carefully read the verses given yesterday, and when revisited, expressed encouragement through the young people who had visited
· At the Woodland Park Kid’s Outreach they were confronted by an unhappy woman who didn’t like gospel message.
But also:
–S., who expressed interest in a Bible study
–S., a believer who brought fruit and encouragement to the workers
–both K. and E. came back yesterday (we asked you to pray for that!)
· Another Olathe kid’s club was held this morning at 11:30 in another apartment complex with lots of kids
· T. has 3 children and expressed interest in a Bible study; she is concerned about the spiritual welfare of her family

Baldwin:
· Thank the Lord for the opportunity to have Vickie speak at the public library
· S. and J. – we were praying they would come to the Baldwin cookout tonight; they are having a rough time and need spiritual help
· Pray for the Baldwin follow-up and for open doors; they now have more than 40 good contacts to revisit
· Remember the ongoing kid’s clubs there both morning and afternoon

Ottawa:
The Ottawa gospel meetings have been the focus of much of our prayers and efforts as we head towards the second half of the week. The facilities we have are excellent, in the center of town. A commodious theater-style auditorium seat about 450 and we have a kitchen and and another large room in the lower level for a kid’s session and refreshments later. Two resource tables are set up in the entry way as the people leave. Although the place has been about half full the last two evenings, we have had a good number of visitors—at least 50 each night (which in a local chapel would be a thrill). But we are praying for many more to attend. Scores have said they will attend, and we are asking the Lord to move their hearts to come.

One amazing development is the prayer interest of other believers in town. There are 50 churches here, but a recent survey by a local Baptist group found that 60 percent of the town have no church affiliation. A good friend and brother, Stan H., a local pastor, told us that the ministerial group has been praying for revival in Ottawa for six months. The night before last he attended and quizzed one of the brothers as to who we are. He went home and was on the internet till 3 am looking up the “Brethren” and what they believe. (He told us last night, “I’m glad you’re of the ‘Open’ variety.”) But he told us when the local ministers gathered for prayer yesterday, he told them what he had found–that we were biblical and that the message preached was the pure gospel. He cautioned that they wouldn’t agree with everything we believed—for example the role of women. One woman minister in the group said, “I believe God has sent them to town in answer to our prayers and I’m going to pray for their blessing!” Several pastors attended last night. One, not a member of the ministerial association, left a card with his phone and email, with “Anything I can do to help, ask me. I’m praying for you.”

· a whole youth group attended Wednesday night; the youth leader said many of them are not living for the Lord and perhaps unsaved
· a woman attended who is interested in a Bible study and left her info
· J. came to the gospel meeting last night, heard a clear gospel message; pray for his salvation
· a boy from the church youth group who attended last night said he was unsure of salvation, and listened well to the gospel
· last night many others attended who are in need of the Savior
· L.and S. are believers who attended; their grandson/son went to the kid’s meeting Wednesday night, and had questions about the gospel
· J. asked for follow-up and Bible study; pray for his girlfriend also
· C. had questions, may be a believer but living in sin, knows it is wrong, pray he will come to meetings and deal with the sin issue

Also in town:
· a group of JWs were in Dairy Queen after the meeting, and some of our folks shared the gospel with them. Some of them agreed to meet with Mike Saturday morning
· P., A. and D. belong to the Reorganized Church of LDS; were respectful and were invited to gospel meetings
· C. has health issues; she wouldn’t take the packet, but heard the gospel
· B. and B. are from a Seventh Day Adventist background; heard the gospel clearly last night after the meeting; pray that they return
· A., a woman who heard the gospel at the side of the road, willingly received literature
· J. heard gospel multiple times Wednesday night
· Man met on the doors was confused about evolution; pray for follow-up
· Lori, a woman on phone with husband when we came to her door, heard the gospel, said she had been thinking of spiritual things, may be under conviction

There may be as many as 200 follow-up contacts for Justin! As you may know, Justin and his family has been traveling with a trailer this year, leading the GNOM team. Believing the Lord is doing a deep work in Ottawa, he and his wife and five girls have rented a house here “for the duration,” whatever that may mean. Please pray for the Humes family.

Yours for the team, the local believers, and the Best of Masters

Dear fellow soldiers in Good News! Eastern Kansas

The Lord is at work and we praise Him for His arm made bare. He even used the downpour of rain (3 inches is just a few hours) to the advantage of the gospel, although we heard of some who didn’t attend the evening meeting because of the drenching. For example, a long-time JW, hastily invited some workers into his home, received our literature, and engaged in a lengthy discussion because the rain chased them indoors at just the right moment. No doubt there were other incidents like this.

Here again are matters for prayer and praise:

Ottawa:

Tonight is the first night (of 4) for gospel talks with Scott DeGroff—please pray for him. A large theater (450 seats) has been rented and the town is buzzing with the event. There are 150 posters up in area businesses. The local radio station is announcing the meetings multiple times a day. The local paper has been running ads and yesterday they sent a reporter to interview Justin Humes. The report was very favorable and will encourage people to come. Local believers from various evangelical churches have been very exercised, longing for an awakening in Ottawa. Some have even been meeting to pray for this for the last six months, and when they heard what the Lord had laid on our hearts, they have rejoiced with us! We are anticipating the Lord to do great things among us. Meetings are at 7 pm Central Time.

Baldwin:

The door-to-door and kid’s clubs continue in Baldwin. It is hoped that spiritual conversations will be had at every home in the community. This small assembly has recently had two young couples join with them to their great encouragement. There will be quite a number of contacts for them when the week is over. Follow-up has already begun. At yesterday’s kid’s club, one youth, was able to understand the gospel more clearly, and seems more open. Pray for her and for the dozens of children who are attending. Many homes have such broken hearts.

Olathe/Shawnee:

A great deal of door-to-door work is being done in Olathe, and there are many to pray for. It is hoped that the Shawnee saints will see the start of an evangelistic Bible study, and eventually an assembly. There have been some real encouragements here. One of the young local believers couldn’t rest last evening, he made a return visit to a fellow who confessed that he had trusted the Lord after yesterday’s visit.

Here are just a few of the many matters for prayer and praise:

· One of the moms who attended the kid’s meeting with her children, trusted Christ after the session

STOP PRESS: Because the proposed open air preaching in the center of town was cancelled due to the rain (the expressway was closed because of a multiple-vehicle accident) the open-air team are hoping to be down there today from noon and into the afternoon.

Lawrence:

The Lawrence gospel meeting was held last night in the midst of a torrential downpour. However many Christians and a number of visitors braved the weather for a talk and Q&A on the subject “Does God Care When We Suffer?” By the way, the posters for the event featured a man under an umbrella in a downpour! Several believers, new in town, came along and expressed interest in meeting with the local saints. A homeless man attended but left midway through, evidently in deep conviction. Several new Christians attended and asked questions about Christian victory over sin. We wait to see what the Lord will do through His Word presented. Thank you for your prayers. Keep praying!

Today at noon, by all accounts, the luncheon at the Marriott (women only) was a great time. Vickie Gaynier told the gospel through a dramatization of the life of Corrie Ten Boom; it was a full house with several unsaved attending (including a Catholic relative of Vickie’s—please pray for her). She will be making the presentation tomorrow in the main library in Baldwin, and they are hoping she will be allowed to do it also at the women’s prison where locals have a Bible study each week.

Finally, we were reminded today about the need for “patient waiting for the harvest.” Our friend Larry received a phone call from a woman in Sioux Falls whose son has hit bottom and is looking for help. His mother pointed to the “Need Prayer? We Care” magnet on her fridge and said, “Maybe we should call that number.” When Larry asked what the magnet looked like, she said it had white water lilies on it. That meant it was received in 2004—six years ago! He said he still receives a phone call from those magnets about every other month.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Gal. 6:9).

Your prayers are heard above.

For the team here,

Jabe

Dear praying friends,

Greetings from (rainy) Kansas! The weather forecast for the whole week is thunderstorms, a bit of a challenge with kid’s clubs and door-to-door work scheduled every morning and afternoon. It may also affect attendance at evening events. This is a matter for serious prayer as the work continues.

We wish you could be there to see about 150 deeply exercised believers in serious prayer for the day’s events. But of course you are there, if “there” is the Throne of Grace. Thank you for meeting us there throughout the day (and night, for those of you on the other side of the world). God is at work in Kansas.

Justin, who has moved with his family to Ottawa, KS, to help with the new work there, read us a few lines from an email he received. It was from a young man who was contacted first when GNOM was there a month or so ago. He has been faithfully attending the evangelistic Bible studies each Friday in Ottawa. He wrote:

“My sorrow comes from not completely accepting Jesus Christ into my life before. I thought I could cheat the system and do what was right for people. Now I realize there is no one that is good, for we are all sinner…. The only way out is my accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior and helping others to find him as well.”  Hallelujah!

Please continue to pray for the door-to-door work at more than 10,000 homes in eastern Kansas, for morning, afternoon and evening kid’s clubs, for the Tuesday evening event in Lawrence (Jabe Nicholson on “Does God Care when we Suffer?”), the Wednesday ladies’ noon luncheon with Vickie Gaynier (69 women have signed up for the event—a full house!), and the evening meetings with Scott DeGroff in Ottawa (Wednesday-Saturday).

Everywhere are hurting people. We can’t give you all the contacts that have been made in the four areas we are working–Ottawa, Olathe (pronounced O-lay-thuh), East Lawrence and Baldwin–but continue with your intercessions.

Lawrence:

• Pray for kids club, rain to stop and attendance by neighborhood children.

• The Cowboy Clinic: 20 children attended—pray for good attendance tonight as well.

Olathe:

• When no kids showed up at the Monday morning kid’s club, they called the prayer line at the hotel. Then, in a few minutes, about ten kids and a few moms appeared. There was also a steady stream of people at the afternoon club. A young boy (9 years old), made a profession of faith.

• the Hispanic community—many are interested in a Bible study in Olathe.

• We met a believer that faithfully hands out tracts. She had run out and we were able to supply her with more. She rejoiced in the fellowship of the gospel.

Ottawa:

• There have been several calls from those who received the door hangers w/ interest shown in the upcoming gospel meetings.

• 40 kids from the youth group at a local church are to come to the meetings this week.

• About 20 contacts were made so far with several asking for spiritual help, return visits, or a Bible study.

• A local newspaper reporter just called Justin. She has heard so much “chatter” about the gospel efforts, she wants to interview him. May God be glorified.

Baldwin:

• about 35 good contacts were made between Sunday and Monday.

• kids club—21 kids attended, and there was the opportunity for ministry to parents as well.

Dear fellow saints and much appreciated prayer warriors,

On behalf of the saints laboring here with the Good News, Eastern Kansas! outreach, we would like to update you on the things that have been happening and what is planned in the will of the Lord for the coming week. We saw many open doors, many answered prayers and are excited to see what the Lord will continue to do.

In Olathe, we were blessed with the privilege of going door to door several afternoons and a couple of mornings. There were many open doors.

In Lawrence they were involved in prayer, prep for the surge, and helping out with some events that were going on in the other locations.

There was an invitation for the gospel meetings hung on every door in Ottawa. We have seen some amazing breakthroughs with both the gospel and with multiple fellowships in town that want to collaborate in the gospel outreach. We are amazed at the open doors there.

In Baldwin, there has been much preparation going on, and we covered the greater part of the town visiting door to door.

We are excited to see what the Lord will do here!

Housing update

By admin | May 27, 2010

Dear All:

Although the online hotel registration deadline has passed, it’s still not too late to make plans to attend Good News, Eastern Kansas! For those who have already registered, we again thank you for sacrificing to attend the outreach. We are delighted to have you come.

We would like to communicate some more information concerning accommodations. Limited in-home housing was available but at this time we have nearly saturated this avenue. We would like to therefore encourage accommodations at the hotel.

Rooms have been arranged at the Hampton Inn in Olathe (KS). The room rate is $79/night for up to four people per room. (This calculates out to $19.75/person/day). This rate includes breakfast and the hotel is providing a meeting room with audio/visual equipment at no cost.

Since the online registration for the hotel has closed, call the hotel directly at 913-393-1111 and mention “Good News, Eastern Kansas”. The hotel may quote you a price of $120/night, but we have verified the previously arranged fee structure. We recognize that not all would be able to afford to stay at the hotel. Therefore, we arranged with the hotel for the final bill to go through the local Bible Chapel. We suggest that you still stay at the hotel even if you are unable to contribute to this expense. We do not want to limit a person attending due to this expenditure. The organizers will look to the Lord for His provision in this matter. Please note that in the registration process you will need to use a credit card, but this will not be charged as the the Chapel will be billed. If acceptable, we will attempt to group people together in order to maximize our room capacities. Please reserve as soon as possible. The hotel still has rooms available as of yesterday.

In addition, the local saints are attempting to provide lunches during the days of the outreach. Thus, the only uncovered meal would be the dinner meal. We hope this will also minimize your expenses.

I hope this gives some degree of relief in this matter. We trust you will receive blessing from the Lord in your labor.

In Him,
Steve Price

Dear Fellow Saints & Co-Laborers in Christ

It is with deep love and appreciation for each of you that we want to express our gratefulness for your efforts in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ here in Richmond, KY. Many of you came from all over the USA, Canada, and Ireland out of devotion to our Savior to share His love with the lost of our city. Others of you couldn’t be here in person, but stood shoulder to shoulder with us before the throne of grace. What a privilege to see your prayerfulness, perseverance, and zeal for our Lord in sowing the seed! Thank you for giving, giving, and giving for His honor and glory. We were tremendously blessed to see the Lord’s work in and through you. The Lord Jesus Christ is worthy!

We just said “good-bye” to the last of the laborers who stayed an extra week after follow-up week, in order to reach the nearly 300 contacts that were made during the “Good News, Kentucky” outreach. The surge greatly impacted people in Richmond. Some of the original contacts have led to others and we are seeing a rippling effect of the gospel. Bible studies are being established with interested individuals. So far these have been “one-on-one” Bible studies with men, women, and two couples who have not studied the Bible before and are reluctant to join in a group study with others. Pray that these will come to know the Lord through His Word. Many of you may remember Raphael, a new Spanish speaking believer who is hungry for the Word and faithful to meet with the believers. He is full of questions and continues in discipleship studies with the brethren. Pray for him as he is also being bombarded by a JW friend, relative, and others. Another Spanish-speaking lady, Maria has trusted the Lord as her Savior and brought her three children to meetings on Sunday. We are also continuing on with the childrens work in three areas of the city. These have been well attended.

Please pray with us that the Lord will bring us to individuals He has prepared. After return visits and phone calls, we are still not getting in touch with some of those who were initially contacted during the outreach. Pray that all obstacles will be overcome in bringing the Light to those who live in darkness.

The Lord has done above and beyond what we could possibly ask or think. We value your constant prayer support for all He is doing and for the assembly of believers as we continue follow up. Again, we are grateful for your labor of love for our Savior and the encouragement you have been to us.

On Behalf of Bluegrass Bible Fellowship
With Love in Christ Jesus our Lord,
Jim Harmon & John Frasher

Good News Kentucky - Update 6

By admin | Jun 5, 2009

Dear saints,

The [second] week is almost over. Many of the believers who have come to minister with us here in Richmond will be leaving soon for home. Solomon said that the end of a thing is better than the beginning; as children of God, we can now look back to the wonderful things our heavenly Father has done!

Our brother Joe Reese completed his series of gospel messages Wednesday night. Among the visitors that evening were two young men. They were wearing name tags, dressed well, very polite, but they didn’t seem to be with us to hear any good news.

Nathanael Pena from the GNOM team had met a young Mormon couple last weekend. They had mentioned that the local LDS church would be sending its representatives to see what this “protestant” group was up to. And on Wednesday night, two Mormon missionaries sat in the audience.

I will confess that I was not so eager to share the good news with these young men. These so called missionaries were spending two years of their lives leading the lost into confusion, and worse, blaspheming against my Savior. To counter this threat, I joined the prayer group outside the meeting.

As we asked for the Lord’s direction for the evening, we felt convicted of our attitudes towards our guests. Our Lord once said, “But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” Matthew 5:44. The Lord loves those two young men, and He reminded us that we should too. They are two souls heading to a lost eternity, and we had the opportunity to tell them of the gift of God. When God looked down to see a world that had walked away from Him, He did not pass a swift judgment, but sent His Son to be the payment for our iniquities.

The week is almost over. The work of the Lord will continue on in Richmond. The need is so great; to give up one week is not enough: we should give our lives instead. For our last morning together, it felt appropriate that we sang together the words of this hymn.

“Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save!”

In Him,
GNOM IV
